Nan Gao

Nan Gao has demonstrated an extraordinary talent and love of music from her very earliest years. In her native city Hangzhou, Gao won the "Zhujiang" Cup young-pianist competition at 9. By the age of 19, She won the First Prize in the United States Open Music Piano Competition. Gao went on the Nanjing Normal University for the Bachelor’s dgree in music education, and upon graduation, she received a high scholarship in piano performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she worked on her master's program. She is currently studying at the University of Georgia as a DMA candidate and learning piano with Dr. Liza Stepanova. Not only being a soloist, but Gao is also a chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and a piano teacher. She performed Phantasy Piano Quartet in F-Sharp Minor by Frank Bridge in Studzinski Recital Hall during the Bowdoin International Music Festival in 2018. She also performed Piano Quintet by Dmitri Shostakovich in the New Year Gala Concert at Liu's Theater in 2019. In the same year, she started being a vocal coach in the Longy School of Music of Bard College and worked with lots of singers and accompanied their vocal recitals. With 8-year teaching experience, Gao believes that music is the most beautiful language in the world, and she wants to motivate her students to "speak and sing" through their fingers. She has students won the gold medal in the AMTA Sonata and Sonatina Festival, First Place in North York Music Festival, First Place in Unionville Music Competition, First Place in 2021 Toronto Kiwanis Festival. Now she is a teaching assistant in University of Georgia and a faculty member of UGA Community School of Music. Gao is a member of MTNA.
